Vertical Arrays

With my new direction in careers, I have made it a point to get out and just shoot…shoot what I want to shoot. So, when I saw that my good friend, Kirk, and the Vertical Arrays were playing at Surfside 7 in Fort Collins, I decided to head North with my camera gear in-tow. This kind of shoot is really getting back to my early days of photographing live music — a cramped bar with no real lighting to speak of, but filled with people out to see some local music…oh, and loud…very loud.

I had a great time, the music was awesome, and I got to see a friend I haven’t seen in a while. Check them out if you get the chance…

Ben Harper & Charlie Musselwhite

Every year it seems that Fort Collins’ New West Fest gets better and better. This year Ben Harper and blues legend Charlie Musselwhite rocked the main stage on Saturday night. The highlight of their set had to be the incredible cover of Zeppelin’s “When the Levee Breaks”…they killed it.IMG_8210 IMG_8214 IMG_8259 IMG_8239 IMG_8289 IMG_8262 IMG_8424

— 50 —

Since this is my 50th blog post, I decided to pull my favorite photos from the start of this new (to me) advertising method.  With all the non-photographic things going on in my world, it’s kind of fun to look back at this stuff and surprising that I still have time to shoot anything.  I sure do love this profession…

Michael Franti & Spearhead

This was probably the most fun I had shooting this summer.  I rarely get to shoot an event for myself anymore without having to meet a deadline, so it was nice to get out and capture some images of a great live act.  These were taken (from the crowd I might add – no credentials needed) at this year’s Bohemian Nights at New West Fest in Fort Collins, CO.  It’s amazing to see what this event has become since I moved to northern Colorado in 1997.

Widespread Panic at Red Rocks

I have been going to see these guys for over ten years now and it’s as fun today as it was that first day back in August of 2000.  It never gets old to me, or my friends, and I don’t think it ever will.

The Friday and Saturday shows were a great time, but Sunday was ridiculous (see setlist below) with the first set containing all original tunes and the second set, and encore, nothing but cover songs…some well known and some not so well known.  The energy and excitement in the crowd was amazing to see with almost the entire venue getting down to the music.

Sunday was my 40th show…and what a memory it will be.
