Krewe of Baloo Mardi Gras

This was the third time that I have gotten the chance to cover this raucous event for the Krewe of Baloo. They are some of the nicest, most down-to-earth people I know, and they really know how to have a good time. Music, dancing, body painting, aerial acrobats, a costume contest, and a parade…this party had it all!© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter HeacoxI set up a portrait station with a white background to make the colorful costumes really pop…here are some of my favorites.© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox© Peter Heacox

Brett & Johanna

This was, to put it mildly, an adventure. Our entire family of five loaded into the Heacox Family Truckster (Ford Freestyle) for a 2000+ mile, Griswold-inspired journey to Springfield, Illinois, and back. Why, you may ask? Well, Johanna is my youngest cousin, and my entire family would be attending her wedding…it was a must that we be there too. Anyway, the whole trip went far smoother than I could have imagined with the girls rarely fighting and Jackson just rolling with it without much of a fuss at all. Apart from barely making it an hour between bathroom stops, more than one uttering of “are we there yet?”, and a few other minor annoyances, we made it in one piece.

The culmination of all this traveling was Johanna’s wedding, which I agreed to photograph for her. One of the true gifts of being a photographer is being able to give your family an amazing gift like memories captured forever — I was honored to shoot it. The wedding was beautiful, the reception was a blast, and it was awesome getting to see all of the people I love so much gathered in one place for such a happy day.

Congratulations to the happy couple!!!

Ben & Elizabeth

Here are some of my favorite images from Ben and Elizabeth’s wedding I shot earlier in the summer. The happy couple tied the knot on one of the islands at Island Lake Marine. It was a hot and muggy day, but everyone had a great time watching these two lovebirds exchange their vows.

— 50 —

Since this is my 50th blog post, I decided to pull my favorite photos from the start of this new (to me) advertising method.  With all the non-photographic things going on in my world, it’s kind of fun to look back at this stuff and surprising that I still have time to shoot anything.  I sure do love this profession…

Ken & Brandy

Alright, last one for a while.

Ken and Brandy got hitched at Austin’s Homestead at Pelican Lakes Golf Club in Windsor, CO.  A beautiful day, a beautiful location, and a beautiful bride – who could ask for anything more?

Bryan & Heather

Bryan & Heather got married at the fantastic Mountainside Lodge at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park.  It was a typical Colorado summer day in the mountains where the weather was perfect until a rogue thunderstorm came rolling through.  In true Colorado fashion the storm was gone in 30 minutes giving way to a beautiful evening.  Congratulations to the happy couple on their big day.

The Krewe of Baloo’s 6th Annual Mardi Gras Charity Ball & Parade

I was invited back by the Krewe to cover their 6th Annual Mardi Gras Charity Ball that was held this year at Denver’s Gothic Theater.  It was an awesome night complete with burlesque dancers, a parade, a great zydeco band called the Tony Trahan and the Blue Krewe, and a bunch of people out to have a great time and donate to a couple of charities sponsored by the Krewe of Baloo.  I set up a photo booth of sorts with a white background to show off the colorful costumes and then covered the rest of the event like a news story.  Here are some of my favorites from the night…scroll to the bottom for a link to the other photos.
